This is the discontinued 1990s 10 year old Benriach that was the only bottling Seagram could be bothered to put out when they owned this fantastic distillery.
Along with Importanticus Fumosus and Aromaticus Fumosus, this was part of a series of peated Benriachs finished in different wood types - in this case, Pedro Ximinez sherry casks have been used.
In these heady days of myriad new releases and silly Latin names it's easy to forget the sorry state BenRiach was in for the last few years of Seagram's stewardship, with the only available bottling being the execrable old 10 year-old. The turnaround in this distillery's fortunes has been remarkably swift: full marks to the new owners.
After initial maturation in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, this 15yo Benriach is transferred for a finishing period in casks that formerly housed dark Jamaican rum, adding an extra layer of sweet, fruity flavours to the excellent distillery profile.
A new Madeira-finished Benriach 15yo. Not to be confused with the Maderensis Fumosus, which was more heavily-peated - this is the lighter style of Benriach.
A 15 year old whisky from the creatively independent folks at Benriach in Speyside. This time they've finished their whisky in tawny port casks, adding some rich vine fruit to their already fruity whisky.
Benriach is a terrific malt from a distillery that has really shot up after years of Seagram neglect. This delicious easy-drinking 16yo is a complex all-rounder - recommended. Web-Exclusive Price!
