A 20cl quarter bottle of the lipsmacking Benromach 10yo, which has been a revelation since its introduction by owners Gordon & Macphail in late 2009, and is really putting this great distillery back on the map.
Bottled to celebrate the distillery's centenary, this 17yo Benromach spent its final two years in sherry casks dating from 1886, 1895 and 1901 before bottling by Gordon & Macphail, who had recently taken over and re-invigorated the distillery in 1998 after a fifteen year hiatus.
Very few malts can stand anything like as much ageing as this Benromach has managed. Which makes it all the more amazing that the whisky inside the bottle can still seem so fresh. Of course, over fifty-five years, the angels get to take more than their fair share - only eighty-three bottles were yielded from the cask. MAXIMUM ONE PER CUSTOMER
A rare old Cadenhead's bottling of this top Speysider. It's great how the fonts on these labels are such a good guide to the tastes of the times - check out the Dallas Dhu '62 or the Macallan 1963 if you don't believe us.
Another release of Benromach 1968, bottled in 2007 - the two bottlings are differentiated only by their strength - this bottling is 45.4% instead of 43%. Incredible colour on this.
A superb (and hugely potent) expression of Benromach, this 19 year-old was distilled in 1978 and bottled around 1997 for the Rare Malts series. The distillery was mothballed at the time of this release but has since re-opened under new owners Gordon & MacPhail.
A special bottling to celebrate the partnership between Benromach and the 'Glasgow: Scotland with Style' Clipper in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race. This is from a single cask and is bottled at 53% - the same as the latitude of Liverpool, from where the race started.
It says here: 'Benromach Origins [are] crafted to highlight how subtle changes to the art of whisky-making can help shape the character of the final malt'. This first effort is made using Golden Promise barley and matured in sherry casks.
The second batch of Benromach's Origins series has been very lightly peated (4ppm) and matured full term in port pipes, lending a very appealing reddish hue to the whisky.
