In our everlasting mission to educate and expand your palates we hold various tasting events at Vinopolis. This not only gives you the chance to sample a range of expressions from a given producer, but also the opportunity to meet the people responsible for creating many of the products that we all enjoy so much.
Though the majority of these events focus on Scottish whisky producers, we have held evenings for everything from rum and chocolate pairing to a blind tasting of Indian vs. Scotch whisky and even a sell-out tequila tasting.
There's a list of writeups of many of our events to the right, but here are some of the other highlights from the past few years:
Michael Heads, Distillery Manager brought down some very interesting Ardbegs including some fascinating single casks.
Whisky evangelist John Glaser took us through a stellar line-up of gems from Compass Box's history to celebrate the company's 10th Anniversary.
Gerry Tosh, Distillery Ambassador showed a range of delights including the 18yo, 30yo and 40yo in a real powerhouse of a tasting.
Shingo Torii, Master Blender took us through some incredible highlights from the Yamazaki & Hakushu distilleries.
Pierre Chollet, Global Ambassador took us through the range of fascinating single cask/vintage Armagnacs as well as something very special from 1900.
Dalmore, Whyte & Mackay
Richard Paterson, Whisky Legend. Say no more.
Ed McAvoy from Jameson presented some top-end Irish drams including Redbreast 15 and Midleton Very Rare.
Annabel Meikle joined us for the launch of the very successful and very delicious Sonnalta, while Signet was also a great hit on the night
Robbie Hughes, Glengoyne’s Distillery Manager, took us on a full X-Factor Journey as we decided which of 3 single casks we were going to bottle as a special edition for TWE.
Noel Sweeney took us through various expressions from Cooley, plus a sneak preview of Kilbeggan’s triple-distilled new make spirit.
Talisker Meets Borough Market
In our most ambitious tasting yet we had whisky guru Colin Dunn and 6 different producers from Borough Market matching various terrific Taliskers with everything from Oysters to Chocolate, meeting Cheese and Scallops in-between.
John Campbell came for a very rare visit to London, and took us through the range with some real highlights including the 25yo and the Distillery-Only Cairdeas 30yo.
Jared Brown (Sipsmith) and Desmond Payne (Beefeater)
For our first ‘white’ spirit tasting we pushed the boat out with 8 different gins being tasted both on their own and in classic cocktails to see how different gins can drastically change our drinks.
We were lucky enough to have Declan McGurk from Speciality Brands taking us through the ranges from the fabulous Tapatio and Chinaco.
Information about these tasting events can be obtained through our Tasting Event Reminder service.
Personal tutored tastings
In addition to these monthly tasting evenings, we can offer personal tutored tastings in the shop from 7.30pm Monday-Thursday. We can comfortably accommodate groups of 6-25 for a 11/2 - 2 hour informal tasting. Though these tend to focus on Scottish Whiskies, we can do tastings on any spirit you might require, such as Japanese Whisky, Bourbon, Rum or even Tequila. To find out more about these, or to book a tasting please contact us.
