Bruichladdich 1973 Reviews
Tasting Notes by Jim McEwan
Lustrous warm orange/amber hue.
Mellow sherry aromas from the refill sherry hogsheads mould beautifully with the jelly bears fruitiness from the distillation. Add to that the oaky vanilla from the American casks and you have a whole bunch of aromas plying your sense. Lots of esters and oak plus the maritime magic of seaside maturation provide a treasure chest of flavours. It's classic Bruichladdich and only gets better with aeration. 1 Minute for every year nosing and sipping throughout.
Initially the oak engulfs the palate like waves filling rock pools. Let it breathe and your patience will be rewarded with flavours of sweet gingerbread, almond cake, stewed pears, honey glazed marmalade oranges, brown sugar tablets. It's wonderfully extravagant. I love this multi layered malt because it shows that with quality casks, age can bring grace and elegance which cannot be found in the younger malts.
Very long with a gentle quiet warmth. This is the big easy.
