Kilchoman Machir Bay 201370cl / 46%
- Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
- Distillery Bottling
The second release of Kilchoman's ongoing Machir Bay whisky, bottled in early 2013. It's a vatting of four and five year old whisky matured in first fill bourbon casks, married and then finished in Oloroso sherry butts for four weeks before bottling. From the little sip we tried in early March 2013 it's another cracker.

Nose: Soft cooked fruits with strong peaty aromas.
Palate: Soft mixed fruits and vanilla with an intense sweetness.
Finish: A classic Islay malt now showing the benefit of additional ageing. A long lingering finish.

Wow! Thought I'd give this one a go - after trying most of the other Islay malts around, was very pleasantly surprised indeed! It most definitely stands it ground when compared to the Ardbeg's and Lagavulin's of this world. Wonderful peat and fruit flavours coming through with a surprisingly long finish for such a young whisky, give this a try - you won't be disappointed!
Great single malt - a beatiful youthfullness - somekind of a young Ardbeg, with an energetic peatiness, Atlantic storm and a fire on a wet Isla beach! What I kinda lacked was a fruity note, like Ardbeg's citrussy notes. Still having in minf this is 4-5yo I would give it 89/100:)
