Cù Bòcan is a mythical hellhound who has stalked the residents of the village of Tomatin for centuries. As a 'tribute' to him, Tomatin have produced this lightly peated whisky, which has been matured in a combination of ex bourbon, ex sherry and virgin oak casks.

Tomatin Cu Bocan Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Note

Aroma: Coconuts and cream with some botanic notes, parsley and coriander. The smoke emerges after a minute followed by a mix of lime, grapefruit and tangerines with rich almond and aniseed.

Palate: Initially feather light, followed by a honeyed smoke. The rich spice of cloves, cinnamon and star anise create an enigmatic elegance.

Finish: Light with a hint of sweet smoke.

Recommended by a member of staff in the London shop, for a lightly smoked whiskey with a depth of flavours coming through. This blows your supermarket stocked whiskey out of the water. You wont want to go back to ASDA stocked Glenmorangie/Grants/Glenfiddich after this. Cu Bocan is much more interesting.

Very easy drinking. Biscuity and morish. I drank it side by side the (now) ?199 30yo Tomatin, and it was almost as good.

At a recent whisky festival in Inverness, after sampling (too many) different whiskies this was the one I went back for. I enjoy easy to drink malts rather than the more extreme peaty or smoky variety and this fits the bill to perfection. I am not an expert so do not use all their over elaborate flowery descriptions. Quite simply, this is an extremely nice dram, especially with a few drops of water. I will be buying it again.
