I got my bottle today and maybe the first time in my 10 year whisky adventure I'm pretty much speechless. Let's try anyway. Absolutely fantastic and superlative malt on the earth. How can 5-6 year old malt be this complex, vibrant, balanced, sweet, long, fruity, cleverly smoky yet smooth on palate? This malt put together my all time favorite Islay malts: Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist and Lagavulin 12 year old cask strength. The best of the bought worlds. Those people in Kilchoman who have crafted this malt must the most capable professionals on the earth. Who knows what Jim Murray will have to say in his Whisky Bible 2015 edition.
Has a nice sweet, gentle peaty aroma, to my nose the vanilla comes through more at first. The peat is not hidden, however, & nor are the other warm fruity aromas, with a hint of ginger. On the palate, I get a strong sweet fruity flavour, with black pepper and vanilla... The peat compliments the flavours here, & not in the least does it overpower them. The finish is long, from sweet spices through to a, not unpleasant, smoky cigarette, with a lot going on in between.
