Following one of the best (and sweetest) sugar-cane harvests in Venezuelan history, Diplomatico decided to release a single vintage rum from the year 2000. This exceptional rum was distilled in a combination of old copper pot stills and a batch kettle, then aged for 12 years in bourbon and single malt whisky casks before being finished in sherry wood.
Diplomatico Single Vintage 2000 Rum Reviews
Tasting notes by Billy A
Nose: Classic Diplomatico to start, with vanilla and milk chocolate caramels backed up by cinnamon spice and brown sugar sweetness. It develops through creamy chocolate truffles and salted almonds to dried apricot, raisins and earthy leather.
Palate: Golden syrup and dried fruit lead the palate, with vanilla ice cream and oaky flavours - cinnamon, green leaves and tree bark. Rum 'n raisin fudge as well as real raisins, apricots, dates and richly pungent honey round things out, producing a very easy drinking rum.
Finish: Long, lingering and warming, with cloves, leather, black liquorice sticks and polished oak joined by vanilla pod sweetness and rich earthiness.

I concur with all the reviews below and will go out on a limb and say, over the years and the thousands of rum''s I''ve tasted there is only one more rum I haven''t tasted and probably never will but this particular rum beats those thousands of rums I''ve tasted over the years which is a feat in its self but I have to still reserve judgment for that one rum I will never get to taste with friends and family........ Of cause it''s the Legendary "Appleton estate 50 year old rum !" . I reserve that spot because it''s very very special and could never be topped unless you know something I don''t know !. ?? cheers !!!
I didn''t drink this at my local yacht club with my buddies. I did however decide against picking up a couple of six packs of Old Milwaukee as was my usual custom and decided to give this a shot instead. I drank the bottle in one night. It kept me nice and warm and made the broads look appear less nastier than they actually were.
A favourite in the local yacht club and it does not last very long either! Probably the finest bottle of rum I have come across.
this is devastatingly nice. the smoothness is like nothing i have ever had before. yes it costs more than your average rum but this stuff is worth every penny.
