Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Andy M

Nose: Quite herbaceous.  Green fruit, mint, cucumber, pine, grassy, spearmint.  Just loads of green fruit in this one.

Palate: Loads of green things coming out of here! Mint, cucumber, green fruit, grapefruit and just a touch of smoke at the back.  Dave Broom got yuzu…I’ve never heard of yuzu…

Finish: Light, delicate, refreshing and some subtle smoke.

Comments: This is so easy to drink.  It’s fresh, easy going (almost too easy) and just divine.  I wrote delicious at the top and circled it! That’s a big thumb up in my world.

No ''herbacious'' or ''green'' in my glass - and I hardly detect smoke. Its a straightforward, typically well made Japanese Malt, and definitely VERY enjoyable & easy to drink. Its an entry level malt so a tad firey (8 years old?) No Yuzu, no Shisho, no Cucumber, no floral descriptions etc.

Love the nose - yuzu is there alright. Shisho, white flowers, citrus fruits and a tinge of green peppers. It''s a young one - a bit rough on the entry and less complex, smoky and grippy than the 12 year old but I''d drink this every day just because it''s so prettily made.

Lovely. Tried this on whiskey tasting with some friends, was towards the end of the evening though.... Looking forward to another try. Clean and clear compared to the yamazaki, a little sweek, a little smokey, and a little minty!

Very nice and clean whisky although it can taste a bit young compared to the 12yo (it's a non age statement, made with apparently nothing less than 8 year old whiskies). At less than £40 a bottle and if you don't want to spend more for the excellent 12yo, you can't really go wrong with this.
