The holey dollar was a currency from the 1700s which was used due to a shortage of coins, and which resulted in rum being traded as a currency. In 1808 The Holey dollar rum distilling company was founded in Australia; this was after 1793 in which the NSW arms purchased all of the rum being exported to Australia to control the currency earning the name ‘the rum corps’.
