Buckfast
Tonic Wine, Mead and Fruit Wine
Buckfast Tonic Wine is made by monks at the Buckfast Abbey in Devon. The original recipe was brought there in the late 19th century by a group of French Benedictine monks, forced to leave their own abbey in Dijon because of new, anti-clerical laws. After the First World War, the monks were struggling to obtain a license to sell their tonic wine due to strict, post-war regulations.
