Derived from Dutch jenever, gin has been produced in Britain since the 17th century and has been hugely popular ever since. Gin is made by flavouring neutral spirit with botanicals, of which juniper must be the predominant one. However, recent years have seen variations including barrel-aged gins, as well as those flavoured with fruits such as rhubarb and raspberry.
