About Tomatin
Tomatin dististillery was established in 1897 by John MacDougall, after it was announced that the final route of the Highland Railway would pass through Tomatin. it’s whiskies grew in popularity, even with a brief closure between 1906 and 1909, and following the Second World War Tomatin expanded at an incredible rate, and by 1974 the distillery had 23 stills in operation, capable of producing 12.5 million litres of alcohol per year, making it the largest malt distillery in the world at the time. After another short closure in the 1980s its focus shifted towards quality over quantity, seeing the introduction of the Antiquary blended whisky in the 1990s and later its peated Cu Bocan single malt, and maintaining its signature soft and fruity style.
