Westland

American Single Malt Whiskey

Based in Seattle, Washington, Westland’s aim is to create a single malt reflective of the impressive landscapes of the America’s Pacific Northwest, where rich soil is perfect for growing barley, clean, mountain water is in ready supply, and proud American oak grows plentifully.

As such, Westland is a collection of flavourful spirits made with high quality ingredients, non chill-filtered and without added colouring – at once following in the footsteps of Scotch single malt, and forging a path through its own Western frontier: whiskey.

AMERICAN OAK American single malt whiskey

Westland’s flagship release, this American-oak matured expression is perhaps the distillery’s most unapologetically- and recognisably-American release. A fiercely rich whiskey laden with chocolate-y malt, honey, and creamy, custardy flavours.

Tasting Notes

From the producer

Nose The initial nose provides lemon and orange custard backed by freshly produced waffle cone. Shortly after, a rich creaminess emerges with crème brûlée and chocolate custard while a hint of jasmine hides just beneath the surface.

Palate The first sip confirms the creamy and rich fruit custard notes of the nose, adding an element of Rainier cherries. After five minutes, melting Swiss chocolate is revealed with a hint of almond. Extended tastings bring out bananas and cream with Turkish coffee.

PEATED American single malt whiskey

Fetching Price

Fetching...

A marriage of heavily-peated and unpeated spirit matured in American oak, this is a ripe and characterful single malt whiskey which maintains a fine balance between savoury peat smoke and fruity notes, all run through with a green herbaceousness.

Tasting Notes

From the producer

Nose The nose starts off with a background of nuttiness accompanied by smouldering moss and flamed orange peel.

Palate The peat leaps from the palate, expressing campfire notes, iodine, and roasted pistachios. With time, the smouldering moss on the nose evolves into burning embers and roasted plantains. The palate also transitions over time, moving towards significant earth notes, green herbs and increasing iodine towards the finish.

SHERRY WOOD American single malt whiskey

Fetching Price

Fetching...

A rich and sweet single malt whiskey which treads in the footsteps of its Scottish predecessors, while retaining a certain cereal sweetness one might associate with bourbon. A fruity, spicy and lightly-sweet all-rounder.

Tasting Notes

From the producer

Nose The nose offers an immediate richness, with honey-dipped oatmeal raisin cookies. Maple syrup follows close behind, drizzled over banana pancakes.

Palate The palate initially offers some kiwi with more maple and raisin syrup notes. Extended tastings offer a dazzling array of sweet cookies and pastries, getting darker and richer with time before eventually ceding the palate to stewed yellow fruits on the finish.

Frontier Whiskey

To hear Westland tell it, the mountainous and forested landscapes of America’s Pacific Northwest bear a striking resemblance to the glens of the Old World – Scotland. It was these resemblances which inspired Westland to strike its own path through whiskey; an exploration of traditional single malt-making techniques with a view to produce a spirit which remains uniquely American in character.
