A new Glenrothes from DL, an amazing gift set from Nikka and some more stuff from lost distilleries: there seems to be quite a lot of these coming out at the moment. Perhaps the bottlers have been persuaded into action by our special Lost Distilleries Feature from a few months back! Or maybe it's just coincidence. Also this week, an impassioned plea from our friends at Penderyn has arrived in the form of the press release below: Penderyn on the hunt for Memorabilia The Penderyn Distillery is launching its visitors’ centre in June this year. As part of the permanent display there will be a tribute to the history of Welsh whisky distilling, which goes back to the 4th century. The company needs people’s help and support in gathering artifacts and memorabilia as part of this display. Items of interest include full or empty bottles of Welsh whisky, barrels, photography, signage, business documents, promotional items, maps, glasses/pottery or anything artifact relating to the rich and long tradition of whisky distilling in Wales. As an example, the company’s managing director, Stephen Davies, recently discovered an unopened bottle of 116 year old Welsh whisky from the distillery in Frongoch along with many other artifacts including promotional items, maps and photography. Things people should look for: - There was a small commercial distillery at Dale in Pembrokeshire which opened in 1705. This distillery was owned by Evan Williams's family who later emigrated to the USA and helped found the Kentucky Whiskey Industry. - In the 19th Century a whisky distillery operated at Frongoch near Bala in North Wales under the chairmanship of a Mr Robert Willis, which closed in the late 1800's. - In the 1990s, the Brecon Brewery Limited produced Swn Y Mor - which claimed to be a Welsh product containing a Welsh distilled grain spirit, but the source of the spirit was a mystery because at the time there was no distillery in Wales. Here at TWE we're always
