A bunch of very interesting things today - Longrow's new Cabernet Sauvignon finish (subtitled 'Red'), an incredible 34 year old Glenturret from Berry Brothers (named as maybe one of the best whiskies he's ever bottled by their spirits king, Doug McIvor), the 44 year old super-shiny Auchentoshan 1966, Glendronach's latest UK exclusive single cask and last, but far from least, a new single cask Noh bottling of Karuizawa.

Here at last, it's the most-hyped whisky of the year

Here at last, it's the most-hyped whisky of the year - Ardbeg Galileo. As soon as news broke that the distillery had taken part in some cod-science project to send some of its spirit up into space it was only a matter of time before a celebratory bottle appreared, and here it is. Galileo is made up entirely of whisky from the 1999 vintage, making it Ardbeg's first non-single-cask vintage release since Airigh Nam Beist first appeared in 2006. The whisky is 12 years old, and some of the constituent casks had formerly held Marsala wine - however, Galileo is not a 'finished' whisky as the Marsala-matured whisky was all full-term maturation. Our allocation of Galileo will almost certainly sell out in a fairly short space of time, so we've made it ONE BOTTLE PER CUSTOMER.

Macallan 18 year old Sherry vintage release is probably THE defining expression from the distillery, beloved of countless whisky fans worldwide. The 1994 is here at last, but we dovwonder how long these will continue to be viable as supply dwindles in the face of overwhelming demand. Sadly, Macallan has already been forced to withdraw the 10yo, 12yo and 15yo expressions (and the Fine Oak range) from the UK market, but let's hope that those extreme measures mean there's a few more of these vintage 18 year olds in years to come.
