A very special edition of Crown Royal released in 2012, XR was created using the last batch of rare whiskies from former owners Seagram's LaSalle distillery, which closed in 2003. This is a true one-off, unrepeatable bottling with a terrific reputation among fans of Canadian whisky.

My goal was to try all of the crown royal whiskies. I've tried the original, black, Reserve, Cask No16 and now for graduation my best friend bought me a bottle of the Extra Rare. I have to admit, it's the smoothest whisky I've tasted. It's beautiful in taste, smell and looks. Though worth the price, Between the two I'd drink the Reserve being only by a hair my favorite. Other than my personal taste I'd recommend this fine whisky to anyone. Cheers.

Having grown up 5 blocks from the distillery in Waterloo this holds a special place in my heart and for my palate. It's sad to say that it's almost impossible to find here now. Enjoy while you can!!

PalateA sip of this will introduce the taster to gentle vanilla and honey. "Delicate" in a word is a way of describing how these flavors intermingle. You will also note faint oak in the background, which no doubt was contributed to by the time spent aging in barrels of all the whiskies composing this spirit.FinishLight, balanced and almost instantly the flavor is gone, prompting the taster to sip once more (a potentially intoxicating endeavour).

XR is remnants of the old Waterloo, Ontario distillery, which burnt down a few years back. Though even regular Crown is by far the best bang for the buck, on the rocks and without contamination.

As a "very serious" collector and malt drinker for more years than I care to admit to, I was first given this by a good friend some 10 years ago and I have completely and absloutely loved it ever since. Such a really great and unique flavour although I haven't quite found a use for the nice little purple bag (yet!)
