Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

    • Nose

Toasty notes from the oak, and well-defined aromas of honeyed fruit and golden syrup. Rich, but still clean and precise, with an appealing nuttiness.

    • Palate

Drier than expected, this is a big-hitting bourbon, with broad brush strokes of honey, popcorn and cinnamon, countered by punchy, peppery notes, some numbing clove notes, and toasty oak. Less sweet than the No.7, and all the better for it.

    • Finish

      Spicy fruit and oak persists.

  • Tasting Notes by Billy A

    • Nose

Rich and sweet-smelling with golden syrup, demerara sugar, polished and varnished old furniture, nougat, pleasing leafy herbs, fennel, liquorice and sugared almonds.

    • Palate

Spicy initially, followed by a wave of oak and honey; it becomes very leafy next, with the herbal notes in the background, before a secondary wave of sweet clove-flavoured rock and wood glue.

    • Finish

Great length, with a tingling herby spiciness and fading honeyed sweetness.

A Whisky to Take Your Time Over

Only one in every hundred barrels is chosen to mature in the higher temperatures of the upper reaches of the Jack Daniel's maturation warehouses, where the American white oak barrels have optimum interaction with the whiskey inside. The result of this ageing process is a particularly full-bodied and flavoursome whiskey, and each bottle is given a unique label detailing its rick number, barrel number and bottling date. For that reason, we recommend simply pouring Single Barrel Select into your favourite tumbler, and spending a little time getting to know it.

    Steve Jones,

Single Barrel is a little weird. Most times, you get a great cask, but occasionally, the taste is so bad you can barely stomach it. It's worth the risk, and if you don't like it the first time, give it another go with a different vintage. You might be surprised.
