I mixed it 1:3 w/ water and a small bit of lemon. At first you don't taste anything, then you get a slight burn in the back of your throat which spreads slowly to your cheeks and tongue. Amazing that something so clean and light can do that. Drinking it straight is not my thing, but w/ water, wow.
It is a classic for a good reason, it is light in flavour and has a slight burn. Perfect for mixed drinks or drinking on rocks. It is also literally the cheapest bourbon in turkey, great for everyday drinking and cocktails. +1 star for the history behind it.
I love bourbon and have been lucky enough to try quite a few. The things I really like about Jim Beam White is not only is it a good bourbon for the price (inc 1lt bottles), "but" you can always find it on the shelves. And the taste is as good as some bourbons costing more, keep a bottle in your collection you can't loose.
Had this a few times in my younger days in mixed drinks and once on the rocks. Cracked open a bottle today and poured a glass neat. Wow! Lots of legs on the swirl. This was a pleasent suprise. The nose was biscuits and cookies. The flavor is much more complex than I anticipated. Loads of cinnamon, sour mash and oak, barrel char on the tail end. The finish is short but the cinnamon lingering on the tongue is pleasent. I'm glad I decided to give it a try again.
I have tried almost every bourbon and Jim Beam white label is an excellent budget bourbon. Many people shit on Jim Beam. I've tried Markers Mark, Four Rose's, Woodford, Knob Creek, Wild Turkey, Wild Turkey 101, you almost of them. Jim Beam is the only one I enjoy neat. If comparing to Basil Hayden, then Hayden wins but the price point is much different. Blantons is inconsistent. Wild Turkey regular bottle is decent, Knob Creek is good too but the others Jim Beam has a nice smoothness with a bit of kick. Just cuz it's not as popular, especially for whisky/bourbon snobs, doesn't mean Jim Beam is bad. I highly encourage you to set a blind tasting with different bourbon's and see what you really like. Jim Beam for me is perfect. It's not complex but that's ok by me.
