Initial scent: mothers nail varnish remover, sweetness detected, however, overpowered by menthol on a winters day. Taste: evaporates off the tongue like half a hive of wasps. God forbid you have a cut on your lip. Lingering taste: oaky sunflowers and gasoline. Aftertaste: dry bread and prolonged acid reflux, gives an overwhelming sense of regret. I can honestly say I would rather drink listerine then chug ice water in Antarctica. 9/10

A friend gave me the original, the 46, and the cask. I prefer the original straight up, the 46 with water, or soda, and save the cask for special days, or to let friends who like Maker’s give it a try. I have one glass a day, so Makers is permanently on my birthday and holiday wish list. It’s my drink, my only drink. Everything else tastes horrible to me, and I used to be a Scotch guy, Johnny Walker Black, Double Black, and even bought a bottle of Gold Once. The Blue, I tried once from a friend. Who knows what I’ll be drinking in the future, but for now, it’s Maker’s.

Very pleasant bourbon, classic profile. Honey, vanilla and almonds. Nothing heavy flavoured, yet with enough body. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to start with bourbons.
