Jameson Black Barrel
Product Description

A special pot still whiskey-heavy version of Jameson. Black Barrel has lots of first-fill bourbon and sherry casks in the mix, giving it a much richer flavour than regular Jameson, with a strong sherried note.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

    • Nose

Soft barrel-char aromas, along with sweet barley and cereal.

    • Palate

Very soft and smooth. Subtle spiciness and barrel char comes through, along with fresh fruitiness.

    • Finish

      Smooth and balanced.

  • Tasting Notes by Dominic Roskrow for Whisky Advocate

    • Bright sparks, these Jameson guys. This takes all the worldwide quality and balance of the standard bottle and adds a large dollop of pot still whiskey, providing plummy, rich fruits to the mix. They may have also upped the effects of oak, too, so there's an extra depth to the whiskey. Fans of the brand will love it, and pot still whiskey fans will appreciate an affordable full-flavoured blend.

    Anonymous,

A very nice sweet fruity Irish profile. This New Years we did a comparison tasting of bushmills, powers red label, green spot, Jamesons black barrel, yellow spot and redbreast 12. This was solidly right in the middle of the pack. Not as good as. Ice as yellow spot or redbreast but a great value.

    Johnny boy,

On the nose I get raisins, dates ,sweet Sherry & oak . Definitely it’s spent most of its time in Sherry barrels, it’s got just enough burn it’s not as smooth as I would have liked it’s quite young maybe 4- 5 years old , but the finish is long and enjoyable. Definitely Jameson’s are tapping into the Bourbon market. And you know what!! it reminds me of Black Bush. Which is also Sherry cask . And them guys have been producing that stuff for ever. I’m tempted to get a bottle of Black Bush to compare, but from my memory I seem to think Black Bush is a little more refined I could be wrong though. but I do know it’s more affordable but probably not as popular right now.

    NOEL MOITRA,

Smooth and uncomplicated. Vanilla, honey and oak. Dark chocolate and its residual bitterness balance the grain influence. Good for an entry level whiskey.

    Howard,

Bought this on the basis that it had many good reviews. I am an experienced whisky drinker and have a large collection and quite honestly this whisky is very poor. I don’t know if I had a bad batch but basically it was thin, had no depth of flavour and had a bitter aftertaste. Very disappointing after reading such glowing reviews.
