An interesting twist on Johnnie Walker Black Label, Double Black was rolled out for general release in 2011 after a successful launch in travel retail. Double Black adds to the normal Black Label profile by including more Islay whisky and casks that have been heavily charred, giving a more intense flavour with a greater emphasis on smoke while keeping true to the sophisticated Johnnie Walker style.Tasting Notes (3)
Tasting notes by Billy A
Fairly light but oily, with dry oak, honey and gently stony smoke.
Fuller bodied than the nose suggests, moving from sweet smoke and floral honey to cracked stone, tar and old bonfires.
Medium length, with soft smoke, woody spice and charred oak.
Producer's Tasting Notes
The flavour is full bodied and complex with the signature Johnnie Walker peat smoke shining brightly through rich raisins and sultanas. Apples, pears and orange zest bring freshness while creamy vanilla and spice bring a softness and sweetness to the tongue.
The long warming finish combines spicy oak tannins and lingering smoke.
Tasting Notes by Simon Difford (Diffordsguide.com)
Deep amber with bright gold flecks.
Flinty, orange blossom honey with a slight whiff of struck match and linseed oil.
Starts sweet and quickly turns dry. At the beginning it’s honeyed with a touch of smoky bacon then dries with tar, hint of bonfire and charcoal, moving to honeycomb.
Smoky notes waft around the finish which has a touch of dried apple sprinkled with black pepper.

Good for everyday whisky.
Excellent – the smoky notes are perfectly balanced throughout the nose and palate.
This must be what the gods drink
Doesn’t quite have the signature Black Label fire, really it's more smoke than flame, so lacking something. However, for folks who like it smoother and sweeter than the usual it’s a nice dram.
