A 1988 vintage from The Glenrothes, matured for almost 25 years before bottling. The palate has a silky mouthfeel with wonderful rich fruit and a weight and depth that belies its 43% bottling strength.

Tasting Notes by Dave Broom for Whisky Advocate
-
The hue is deep amber and the nose is equally resonant and rich. This is Glenrothes in its most muscular guise, so that while you have the normal layers of fruity complexity, there is an extra weight. Think of citrus peels, sticky dates, walnuts, and fruit leather. The palate is soft and rolling with light tannin. For me, it's at its best au naturel. 88 Points.

Fantastic. Complex whisky with a nice long finish. Slightly sweet with orange and apricots dominating with some undertones of raspeberries. Just too expensive to give it a full 5 star rating.
-
A lovely nose with a strong bourbon burst. Lots of caramel and leather sprinkled with crushed almonds and cinnamon. Very well rounded indeed. The palate is full-bodied and creamy with a honey and chocolate syrup consistency garnished with black pepper corns. You can keep swishing this one around for a while and not get bored. The cinnamon finish is long and satisfying. A lovely dram that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

This whisky is worth every penny at $160 a bottle. If you like a smooth sweet scotch that's easy to drink yet complex enough to enjoy, look no further. The 1988 is perfectly delicious from beginning to end and one of the best bottles under $200 I've ever tasted.

The 1988 exhibits typical Glenrothes characteristics with a rich and fruity nose, delivering a full bodied, fairly sweet flavour with plenty of dried fruit. I was delighted to find that there was very little citrus to be found. The aftertaste is unusually creamy and lingers long after you have finished your sip. No sharpness to be found whatsoever. Highly recommended for an after dinner dram, a splendid whiskey! In my opinion priced at fair value.
