Producer's Tasting Notes
-
Nose
An earthy aroma, figs and orange marmalade, bright notes of fresh gooseberries and ripening grapes.
-
Taste
Cinnamon and crushed black pepper with caramelised fruits, crystallised ginger, raisins and hints of dry oak.
-
Finish
Pleasingly dry with warmth that fades into a lingering sweet marmalade finish.

-
Nose
Cloves, apples, stewed gooseberry, pine, orange and a hint of old library mustiness.
-
Palate
Caramel sweetness up front, although restrained compared to the 21yo, with apple, lemon and nutty cake - cinnamon, raisins, and general cakey goodness. Some wood kicks in at the end to round off the sweetness a touch.
-
Finish
Sweet woody spice, sharp apples and old polished wooden panneling.
-
Comments
Less sweet than the 21yo but also a bit less complicated.

Nose
Quite nutty & oaky. Some pleasant, subtle cooked apple flavours behind.
-
Palate
Again, noticeable sweet oak, with hazelnuts, brazilnuts. Packs a good punch considering it’s just 40%. Becomes drier and sweeter through the mid-palate.
-
Finish
Decent length, remains quite fresh and lively. Hint of citrus and grassiness coming through.
-
Comment
A pleasant, enjoyable easy-drinking dram.

Got this for my birthday from a good friend who knows nice whisky and he has excelled. The taste lingers, leaving you wanting the experience all over again.

A pleasant, enjoyable easy-drinking dram with nutty and sweet oak flavors. Grassy freshness is also present with some rather subtle citrusy flavors as well (not as upfront as it is in Glenmorangie's expressions) but this dram obviously lacks depth & complexity, which is -at least for me- unacceptable given it's age and ?105 price tag. It is a shame that they decided to bottle this at only %40 ABV and that it is chill filtered and is adultrated with E150 Caramel. So, you are basically looking at an avarage quality adultrated Speysider with a high price tag, which sure makes a great product for duty free customers throughout the world I guess. A whole a lot of money for a whole a lot of fancy packaging, indeed.

I completely dissagree with the last reviewers review. This is worth every penny as Glenfiddich compared with one of its rival companies namely Glenmorangie they rarely delve into exspermentation with cask finished whisky and they tend to stick with bourbon and sherry finished whisky so when the age of discovery line came out, the bourbon, red wine and this one were warmly excepted by critics and customers alike. Glenfiddich's gentile nature due to it been at 40% abv has been used with this Madeira finished dram and Madeira been the key word here has had some very intriguing affects on this gentile dram with its earthy marmaladey and figg like taste is a step out of the norm for Glenfiddich and is defiantly going to go into Glenffidch's cupard of curiosity's. If you do some home work about this dram you can see that the whisky community has accepted this as been one of the greats of the distillary and with time the price will rocket for this line as it has already started to do. Keep it up Glenfiddich we are all enjoying the fruits of your hard work and labour !!!

I brought this in duty free, I don''t know about notes of this and hints of that but its a lovely smooth drink which tasted of luxury.

I got this from the Dubai Airport Duty Free last week. Although it is an enjoyable easy-drinking dram with oaky nose and palate, the producer did some serious injustice to this dram by bottling it at only 40% alcohol. I appreciate the fact that the producer took it easy on the sherry with this version; however, I couldn't help thinking ''what if it was bottled at 46%'' at every sip. Not worth the price.
