The Glenglassaugh Distillery was mothballed from 1986 until 2008 and this the first whisky to be made from spirit distilled at the distillery since it reopened. It was matured in a mixture of first-fill bourbon casks and red wine casks before a final short finish in first-fill oloroso sherry butts.Tasting Notes (1)
- Milk Chocolate
- Dried Fruit
Sweet caramel and toffee with notes of nutty sherry, milk chocolate and honey. Ripe plums, red berries and oranges. Caramelised sugar and earthy, charred oak.
Sweet, rounded and creamy. Oranges, plums, cherry and walnuts, chocolate, honey-mead, sherry and soft, spiced oak.
Medium with warming mulled-wine spices, sherry and caramel.

Was the best we tasted at the 2018 Whiskey Show.
The distiller's notes above state "final short finish in first-fill oloroso sherry butts." For me, the sherry component completely overwhelms everything else going on to the point it's almost a caricature of a sherry finished whisky. Or more to the point it tastes more like a whisky finished sherry than a sherry finished whisky. Heavy handed and artificial tasting. Whatever they were aiming for, they missed.
I had one a couple of years ago, it was very nice, Great flavour
Brilliant whisky! It has quite a lot of toffee but isn't too sweet and is very very drinkable. It is a steal for the price.
Very drinkable – delicious.
