Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Billy A

Nose: Sweet and floral, light vanilla custard, sweet pineapple, candied lemons, honeysuckle, sweet pastry.

Palate: More pastry up front, lightly briney, sweet citrus and a buttery vanilla cream middle with some lightly smoky malt.

Finish: Light, sweet flowers, lingering green wood

  • Tasting Notes by Edinburgh Whisky Blog

Nose: Fruity, zesty and aromatic. A classy, delicate nose that reminds me of a nice chilled Sauvignon Blanc or Torrontés. Slightly oily, too.

Palate: Juicy, a little waxy and a tiny bit of spice. This is a superb whisky. The sign of a great blend is that it is the sum of all its parts. You don’t taste any individual whisky, more like a fantastic recipe. This blend is seamless.

Nose: Streuth. This is really good, straight off the bat. Rich spiced notes, mix with plum pudding, stewed rhubarb, cherry compote and aromatic cedar woodsmoke. Superbly balanced. The vanillas start to creep in on the fruit given a little time in the glass and notes of orange oil grab your attention.

Palate: Very oily and thick on the palate. heavily fragranced, with baked oranges, subtle notes of caramel shortcake, orange sherbet and gentle smoke. With water, cereal notes develop, with cherry jam and fudge.

Finish: More stewed fruit, with a lingering note of the wonderfully aromatic smoke.

Palate: A strong sweet and elegant Speyside style. It has a rich, dark and intense flavour that rewards those who take the time to savour it.

Stewed fruit, malty cereal, smooth creamy vanilla, fragrant almonds and tangerines give Johnnie Walker Platinum Label its waxy, fruity and sweet taste mixed with slight drying astringency with subtle smokiness.

Excellent and better than most 18yo malts I have tried. Yes, it may seem overly smoky at first, but give it a few weeks in the bottle after pouring your first couple of drams, and it will smooth out really nice.

Good product. First high grade product of scotch whisky blend i bought. Drink it neat you can't even taste the alcohol, just the notes of what the good ole Scots blended. I recommend it! I can easily drink a whole 5th without having that damn what the hell did I drink felling with some of those other whiskeys on the market. The 5/5 doesnt even give this brand justice. 10/10!!!!

Loved the amalgamation of fragrances. Its amazing on the palate too, a bit oily so the flavour stay longer, tastes much similar to my favorite single malts from Speyside!! The orange, vanilla and caramel along with a tinge of smokiness and spices that come through in the end to balance the sweetness.. Its sure to put some of the single malts to shame!!

I love the sweet aftertaste that stays in your mouth for a little while longer. So far I think this is actually my favourite out of the Johnnie Walker lineup.

Tastes like gasoline. One of the worst JW products in their line. The only good thing about this particular label, is that the local price of gold label is lowered because of it.

Quite a marvelous Blended Scotch. I really did enjoy the fruity flavours, with the slight hint of cinnamon mixed in with flavours of honey, and caramel. The honey, fruit, and Caramel really took hold, but then the cinnamon comes through. I quite enjoyed it. Very smooth also. May be the best i've had of the Johnnie Walker labels. Blue, Gold, Black, and Red all included.

Excellent dram, beautiful flavor and aroma. I could drink this all day. As with any whiskey or scotch hold it in your mouth for a while, to truly enjoy the flavors

My father enjoyed his 50th birthday present. Great value for money and excellent service! Thanks

  • Scotch Fan 31 January 2014

In addition to my previous review, here are some tasting notes. Nose is very closed at first. Notes of strong alcohol and a malty caramel aroma is dominant. Even after letting it sit and breath in the glass, this dram refuses to open up. Palate is one dimensional: nothing but malty caramel taste and awkward alcohol, not allowing any of the spices pull through. There is nothing memorable? or? distinctive about this whisky. It is not smooth either. Major disappointment.

  • Scotch Fan 24 January 2014

Absolute disappointment. I have been drinking JW whiskies on occasions over the past 20+ years. My high expectations from this dram were completely trashed by the overly smokey nose and palate, which is the definitive sign of how JW messed up this time, killing every bit of otherwise would be enjoyable aromas on both nose and palate. I am sorry I have to say this but JW Platinum is the worst of the JW series, especially when it comes to price-quality ratio.
