Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve
Product Description

Johnnie Walker Gold Label was relaunched in 2012. Built around a core of single malt whisky from Clynelish, the Gold Label Reserve is a great addition to the line-up from master blender Jim Beveridge.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Edinburgh Whisky Blog

    • Nose

Honeyed oats, malty with creamy vanilla, toffee popcorn and a touch of gingerbread. A herby note punches through. Really pleasant.

    • Palate

Sweet, smooth caramel fudge. Butterscotch. Quite waxy with honey and vanilla coming in waves.

    • Finish

This finishes more on the heavier side of things with sticky fruits (maybe a bit of trifle?) and faint woodsmoke.

    • Overall

A really well balanced blend from the House of Johnnie Walker. Something to crack open with friends on a summer’s evening and pass around whilst the sun goes down.

  • Tasting Notes by Caskstrength

    • Nose

Fudge notes, drying sherry, dried prunes, vanilla and heather honey. Water brings notes of classic light Walker smoke and candied fruit. So far, so good.

    • Palate

Initially very light, with vanilla and waxy honey (the influence of Clynelish is still really apparent.) Given time, the blend really begins to open up with a distinct smokiness and a slightly thin grainy note. With water, the grains show themselves a little more, followed by sliced apple and more of the Clynelish waxiness.

    • Finish

Lingering smokiness and a touch of dried fruit.

  • Producer's Notes

    • Nose

Honey, vanilla cream, sherry-style dried fruits and notes of biscuits.

    • Palate

Luxuriously smooth, creamy and delicately honeyed with lingering waves of wood, fruit and light, sweet smoke. A multi-layered blend of sweet fruits and creaminess that evokes deeper honey tones.

    • Finish

Lingering waves of wood and light west-coast smoke.

    Signet,

This with the 18 offer the best value in the range. One of the smoothest whiskies you can buy, with nice traces of toffee, dried fruit (sherry)and hint of smoke from the malt. Made with Clynelish has more depth than the thinner tasting black label. Hence it costs more. But still a good price. Most will struggle not to like this.

    Anonymous,

Robust nose, fairly full palate. However the finish is bitter - and not very pleasantly so. I believe Black Label is a better choice for the price, and Green Label infinitely better.

    Jonathan,

This tastes great but doesn't smell very good. The blenders need to make a change or two. The old Gold Label that was an 18 year old was in a different league.

    Anonymous,

Excellent very smooth . It’s that good my wife drinks it all and she doesn’t like whisky.

    Sambo,

Usually a single malt drinker but thought I'd try this after reading the reviews and its something different. A little disappointed in all honesty so I won't be buying again. Doesn't smell good at all. It is drinkable but definitely not my cup of tea, tastes more like an American whisky not proper scotch
