Johnnie Walker Gold Label was relaunched in 2012. Built around a core of single malt whisky from Clynelish, the Gold Label Reserve is a great addition to the line-up from master blender Jim Beveridge.

Tasting Notes by Edinburgh Whisky Blog
-
Nose
Honeyed oats, malty with creamy vanilla, toffee popcorn and a touch of gingerbread. A herby note punches through. Really pleasant.
-
Palate
Sweet, smooth caramel fudge. Butterscotch. Quite waxy with honey and vanilla coming in waves.
-
Finish
This finishes more on the heavier side of things with sticky fruits (maybe a bit of trifle?) and faint woodsmoke.
-
Overall
A really well balanced blend from the House of Johnnie Walker. Something to crack open with friends on a summer’s evening and pass around whilst the sun goes down.

Nose
Fudge notes, drying sherry, dried prunes, vanilla and heather honey. Water brings notes of classic light Walker smoke and candied fruit. So far, so good.
-
Palate
Initially very light, with vanilla and waxy honey (the influence of Clynelish is still really apparent.) Given time, the blend really begins to open up with a distinct smokiness and a slightly thin grainy note. With water, the grains show themselves a little more, followed by sliced apple and more of the Clynelish waxiness.
-
Finish
Lingering smokiness and a touch of dried fruit.

Producer's Notes
-
Nose
Honey, vanilla cream, sherry-style dried fruits and notes of biscuits.
-
Palate
Luxuriously smooth, creamy and delicately honeyed with lingering waves of wood, fruit and light, sweet smoke. A multi-layered blend of sweet fruits and creaminess that evokes deeper honey tones.
-
Finish
Lingering waves of wood and light west-coast smoke.

Abit underwhelming to say the least, ordinary and anything with Blair Athol in it reminds me of Bells. Prefer the black label, think that's best out of the budget end JW's.

I enjoy sipping good whiskey. This one is a real disappointment. Hate to say it, but I would rather have the black. It isn't worth the price at all. I get little on the nose, or palate. I'll save it for the visitors that are impressed with a label. Save some money and go for the green, much better.

One of the worlds best whisky, its time quality blends were appreciated much more. Blending a whisky as complex and pleasant as JW Gold or Blue, Naked Grouse, or Shacklton Blend, is much more of a skill than shoving a spirit in a sherry barrel from a single distillery and two decades later selling it for hundreds of pounds to rich people who mistake age for quality. Premium blends like this one are better than many single malts, theres no point in drinking a 21 or 30 year old malt if its no good to begin with. In Edwardian times, Blending was recognised as a art form, and soon it will regain its rightful place in the modern Whisky world. Not all Blends are Whyte & Mackay or Bells type mixing material.
