Tasting Notes

  • Tasting notes by Billy A

Nose: Lemon cheesecake, (yellow) Jelly Babies, butterscotch, barley, butter and cinnamon.

Palate: Lots of grain, starting sweet and slowly turning spicy and gently sour. With that comes buttered toast, layered with grape jam, nutmeg, clove, lemon zest and fruit gums, with spicy liquorice root sat at the back.

Finish: Apple skin turning sweeter, through fresh apple to stewed and spicy compote. It ends at Jolly Ranchers, with a touch of spicy rye bread.

Comment: Classically fruity pot-still whiskey, with some grape-sweetness behind the more tropical and orchard fruits. Well-balanced spice and citrus notes.

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

Nose: Pronounced aromas of fruit, barley and toffee – this isn’t shy.

Palate: Well-balanced notes of juicy, appley fruit and sweet grains and barley, seasoned with toast and spice. Very appealing and very easy to drink.

Finish: The sweet spice persists after the soft fruit disappears.

All about the cask finishes - which are well balanced and very nice in themselves - and sadly very little evidence of actual character from the whiskey itself. Yes, it is quite appley to start, but that fades into barley then becomes lost in bourbon cask vanilla & sherry cask spice. Totally inoffensive, nothing to dislike, but nothing much in the way of character either. Sorry.

I’ve tried lots of of whiskey over the years from most countries, to understand what I don’t like as much as to understand what I do.. this is yummy yummy yummy... the best.

I love Green Spot so I hoped I’d like Yellow Spot even more. It has a good nose, beautiful color, and the front notes are really creamy like a caramelized fruit tart. But the back notes killed it for me. Very noticeable spicy barley finish lingers. We’ll stick to Green Spot...

I first tried Yellow Spot by chance one night when I was visiting a pub in Ireland. It was part of a high-end whiskey tasting and was my favorite right away. The finish stayed with me for more than a minute and it was as if I was tasting creme brulee. I found three bottles in the Shannon duty free shop and brought it home. Only very good friends get to try this as I am misering it for myself :-)

A great single pot still whiskey, very chewy with an initial hit of apples and lemons followed by a spicy barley-heavy finish.

First experience with this at McDermotts pub in Doolin as recommended by Colin. Vanilla caramel with hint of lemon first impression. Mid palate spice came through with incredibly smooth unctuous finish similar to Apple taffy candy. Very enjoyable.

Way out of my league, but it was a treat and oh so worthwhile. Ripe black cherry, lingering butterscotch candy, fresh vanilla, and oil smoke.

Beautiful whiskey. I couldn''t recommend it enough. Complexity of flavour and quality of Pot Still. A great ambassador for the Irish whisky industry.

Very smooth. Needs no spoiling with water. Now I have to hide this bottle and offer my visitors Jameson 12 year old. Yellow Spot hits the spot!

Fruity and spicy with a that nice creamy texture you get from pot still whiskey, I do have a complaint though, the complaint being that it seemed quite spirity at first but once I got half way through the bottle this whiskey really came to life, and really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it, glad to see Ireland embracing their heritage and producing some high quality whiskey again.

If you want good whiskey, you drink Irish whiskey, if you want great whiskey you drink Yellow Spot - It does get a bit dangerous as it's so smooth you don't think it packs the punch - Craic
