Taiwanese distillery Kavalan was founded in 2005 and released its first bottling in 2008. Quickly winning awards for its single malts, Kavalan has been rising in popularity since its opening.

    • Colour

      Lively and passionate amber.

    • Nose

      Clean, elegant, floral (pleasant & refreshing fragrance of the butterfly orchid), fruity and seductive. With hints of honey, tropical fruits (mango in particular), pear drop, vanilla, coconuts and suggestions of chocolate.

    • Palate

      A hint of sweet mango juice with that spicy complexity and gentle warmth on a medium, oily and citrus finish.

    I normally indulge in good quality Islay whiskies, Caol Isla 18 yr old is one of my favourites, but at nearly twice the price of this beauty ... (it may seem a strange comparison as this has none of the smoke or peat associated with the Islay gem), but I had to associate it, as an indicator of the level this is at - as this is every bit as good, probably better - Maybe different in character but -nevertheless it has me converted .. THIS is now my No1 .... Amazing floral / tropical nose .. almost hinting at Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva Rum .. A really quite different and amazing value single malt! My regular 'go to' Japanese whisky was Nikka from the Barrel ... This represents way better value than that in my opinion... I think anyone that appreciates great quality whiskies and rums will totally love this and add it to their favourites ... It punches WAY above it's weight on both age and price - It is really quite a complex whisky .. You can really enjoy the nose of it and savour it slowly .. Hard to believe how this new Taiwanese distillery have managed to achieve such quality in such a short space of time .. I am over the moon that I decided to try this and will not hesitate to buy this again..

    Had a bottle of this with friends at a bar in Macau. I knew nothing of this whisky, so I approached it with an open mind--and was disappointed. I can't understand the praise. It tastes like a Taiwanese version of Jack Daniels.
