Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes by Stuart P
Nose
Temptingly rich candied peel, currants and raisins, cinnamon and allspice, with notes of almonds and wood polish.
Palate
Surprising soft fruitiness at first, but then a big whack of woody spice takes over. Slightly overdone Dundee cake, liquorice and Demerara sugar, plus dried fruit, gnarly charred oak and some alcohol prickle.
Finish
Pleasing spiciness, but toasty oak dominates.
Comment
Punchy, perky rum with two distinct personalities: one warm and welcoming, the other mildly irritable (but still a charmer).
Tasting Notes by Andy M
Nose
Medium intensity, caramel, confected, Crunchie chocolate bar, spirit, medicinal note, orange zest, hint of polish? Butterscotch.
Palate
Medium bodied, intensity and sweetness. Sweetness is quite coating – almost glucose like which then gets stripped down by the alcohol towards the finish. Alcohol is a touch harsh – there is a mild burn at the back. Lots of caramel, Crunchie bar again, hint of sweet spices, slightly woody, milk chocolate (or dark without the bitterness) and fruit cake. Once the initial hit of sugar passes this is actually quite pleasant!.
Finish
Medium-long finish. Quite a bitter after taste, slightly sappy, surprisingly dry – the sweetness is cut short by the alcohol.
Comment
Comment: A nice little number for the price. Quite light in comparison to some of its Guyanan or Venezuelan counterparts but the dry finish makes this quite a refreshing option.

Nose
Sweetness with a hint of medicinality, freshly mown grass, nail varnish, overripe bananas and salted caramel, with sticky, dark sugars hiding behind.
Palate
Less soft than the nose suggests, with charcoal bitterness balanced by sweet syrup, root beer, Granny Smith apple skin and woody spice. Medium weight and mouth coating, with some dark demarara notes and cake spices, as well as a touch of both sweet and salty liquorice.
Finish
The charred bitterness lingers, with growing cinnamon heat and numbing clove.
Comment
Powerfully flavoured with a sharp edge and lots of spice. Maybe a bit much at bottle strength, but with a drop of water or ice it really comes into its own.
Tasting Notes for CLASS Magazine
Appearance
Clear golden with burnished gold highlights.
Aroma
Tarred rope and asphalt-like molasses, earthy with hints of spruce needle, macadamia nut, coal dust and faint smoky black liquorice.
Taste
Medium to heavy bodied, sweet tar and charcoal with smoky bacon fat-washed flavour and mouth feel. Dry oakyness is restrained and harmonious.
Aftertaste
Long, slightly metallic, barbeque charcoal and chargrilled sweetcorn. Classic Trini rum.
Rating
4.5/5.

Customer Reviews
Just getting round to reviewing this now after receiving a bottle at Christmas. I agree with the tasting notes reference to tar...though to me it's almost a rubber smell...like the inside of a tyre. I've tried hard to like this...but to be honest, for the money there are a lot nicer rums out there. Maybe the real aficionados will like this...but try a Goslings old, Angustura, zacapa or even the old faithful Pussers. All are nicer than this in my opinion
