I've actually never tried port wine before today, but after seeing a wine documentary, I decided to try one (this particular one, as it turns out). I knew ports had a relatively high ABV at 20%, and I tend to prefer red wines no more than 13%. I'm amazed - there is almost no alcohol taste at all - just a rich, flavorful, berry and licorice syrup taste. I obviously don't have any other bottle to compare to Graham's 10 year tawny, but I can also say without doubt that this is the best port I've ever tasted in my 50 year-old life! Of course, for all I know, it's also the worst I'll ever taste - but it's fantastic.

Love this a recent port fan and especially tawny and this is by far the best I've tried by quite a margin. On a purely trivial note being a rum drinker I love the way the way the bottle fits in on the shelf but hey when it comes to enjoyment aesthetics matter. But of course the really important part is the goods themselves and this never fails from the nice cork pop to the glorious translucent damson colour that just says drink me. I'm still developing my pellet when it comes to ports but the nose is full of rich dark fruits and resins with a subtle hint of cooking spice that just scream Christmas to me and the first sip just does the same. It is almost like liquid mince pie in a glass with a subtle not overpowering almost molasses richness that then opens up into berries with a faint whiff of vanilla. There is a lot more in there that alas I am not yet skilled enough to pick out as it travels over the tongue but it screams class. May just be me but the second I swallow I get that dark spirit hit not the taste or the burn but just a ghost of a feeling so fleeting its almost not therewith a very long lingering finish, definitely one to be sipped and savoured and sparks memories I'm not even sure I have. Perfect as a drink for an occasion, to share with friends or just to sit back relax and lose yourself for a while. Excellent with cheese, after a good hearty meal or just for the hell of it. Pairs very well with a cigar and robust enough to have after a whisky or rum and not be lost. This is the port that turned me on to tawny and started my journey and yes there are very good cheaper but its not at a price that's stops it being a regular go to and worth every penny
