Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes by the Whisky Exchange
Nose
Complex and full, with heather honey, sweet vanilla fudge and dark fruit – raisins and plums.
Palate
Rich and oily texture, with layers of marzipan, fruity sherry and spicy cinnamon and ginger.
Finish
Lingering with brown-sugar sweetness and fruit.
Producer's Notes by George Grant
Colour
A rich golden amber.
Nose
Complex, sherried, deliciously peated, light butterscotch aromas, with a hint of dried fruit.
Flavour
Full bodied with super balance of sherried sweetness, malty tones and peaty flavours.
Finish
Long lasting, gloriously sherried, sweet, gently smoky, and distinguished.
Comment
With greater complexity than our younger whiskies, this is a great whisky drinker’s whisky. We bottle this at 46% simply because my grandfather preferred it at this strength. It’s still a family favourite.
Tasting Notes by Billy A
Nose
Sugared raisins, honey and a big cinnamon spicy hit.
Palate
Buttery with brown sugar, allspice, more cinnamon and the rest of the brown ground spices hiding at the back of the cupboard.
Finish
Long, with sweet grapes, more spice, brown butter and the ever-present cinnamon tingle.
Comment
The story goes that this is bottled at 46% as a nod to one of the earlier George Grants, who wanted to balance the taste of the whisky against getting enough out of a special Christmas release to go around the entire family. Whatever the reason, the higher strength gives this a bit more oomph, which along with the Christmas cake, dried fruit and spiciness makes this a fantastic winter dram, and an excellent sherried all-rounder.

Have to say this latest batch is not up to scratch.Breaks my heart to admit it
The right amount of time and water and this is truly excellent
Sensational.
Wonderful, rich and sweet on the tongue. A little splash of water to just expand all the flavours. Started the evening intending to just have a nip. Decanted and finished it with friends that evening. I have a 21 and a 25 year old to try next! Glenfarclas; always assured of quality
This is a decent sherried whisky which benefits from a higher ABV. Very drinkable but I've also had a sample of the 25yo, which was more well-rounded with a longer, better finish.
