A full 60% abv, yet the sweet, rich, spicy distillery character is still very much in evidence. A very small drop of water is recommended to open up the flavours.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Tasting Notes

    • Colour

      Deep peaty-gold.

    • Nose

Complex, oaky, apples and pears, and a tempting dark toffee sweetness.

    • Flavour

Dry and assertive, develops quickly to reveal a rich spiciness, combined with a hint of oak and sherried fruit.

    • Finish

Amazingly smooth for the strength; wonderfully warming and with a lingering smokiness, yet very rounded.

    • Comment

A great whisky holding all the flavours of all the Glenfarclas in one glass. Being so warming, this is the perfect Hogmanay dram. Don’t be afraid of the strength and order a 210, if you dare!

The smoothness makes the 105 drinkable at cask strength, but I suggest adding a little water to fully explore its great depth.

The Glenfarclas

When Christmas came to Glenfarclas, former distillery chairman George S Grant would select a single cask from the warehouses to share with his friends and family. He bottled these whiskies at their natural strength, a gesture of generosity and a testament to the quality of the spirit. They proved so popular that in 1968, Glenfarclas became the first distillery to introduce a cask strength bottling to its core range. This pioneering whisky would ultimately become the iconic Glenfarclas 105 – vatted to a strength of 60% for a pure expression of the distillery’s richly sherried character.

Independent spirits

George S Grant became chairman of Glenfarclas in 1949, taking on the distillery that had been in his family since 1865. Over a 52-year career, he saw the old Speysider through good times and bad, guided always by unwavering faith in the quality of his whisky. It was this conviction that saw him move away from selling to blenders and focus on laying down single malt for future generations. Glenfarclas is still in the Grant family and remains independent to this day.

    AL C,

Holy Hell…this is my new fav dram! Such a bang for your hard earned cash! I first tried 105 in The Ben Mhor Hotel Bar in Grantown Upon Spey and have never looked back. It’s got superlative balance with just the right dryness but depth of flavour and wonderful minerality that seeps down deep into your chest. I had some concern that it the alcohol would burn but so so wrong…this is fine whisky at its finest (in my humble view) and scouring is absent replaced instead by a subtle honey sweetness…and I mean subtle, making this very deliciously drinkable. An absolute bucket list dram if ever there was one and I challenge any to disagree without trying it first. I think at least 8-10years aged and don’t let the alcohol content scare you. Bold, but in totally the right way :)

    A Toronto whisky lover,

I’ve had about 6 bottles (not all at once) over the years and, buy when I see it. The nose, is eye watering and is very complex in tasting, I take it with a teaspoon or perhaps a bit more water. All I can say is I’ve just bought another bottle the other day and am looking forward to Christmas when I’ll share it for my friends. I also have five more whiskies, mainly from Isla, my first love.

    Simon,

Definitely need some water to feel the different aromas. Is perfect after heavy Christmas lunch and you need to try it.
