Mikkeller Black Reviews
Tasting Notes by Billy A
Nose: Sour apple skin backed up by butter, poached pears and lots of sweet caramel. Young, but already with some sweetness and complexity.
Palate: Heavy and oily spirit, with the sweet, buttery of the caramel up front. Charcoal and sour woody notes develop, with gentle peppery spice. Behind those initial impressions sit some young spirit notes, but the body is dominated by wood and fruit, with dark bitter char joined by grape, apples and pears.
Finish: Light and short, with more caramel, a touch of wood and some sour, tannic grape skin.
Comment: A surprisingly complex spirit, despite its age. It has a youthful feel but that is tempered by sweet caramel, and both fresh and orchard fruit. A great start.
