Product Description

A peated bottling from Goa's John Distilleries under their Paul John brand. Produced using peat imported from Scotland (there isn't any in India), it was bottled in 2013 at cask strength. The brand first arrived in the UK in 2012 and continues to go from strength to strength.

India's John Distilleries was founded in 1992, using six row barley from the Himalayan foothills to create sweet, floral notes in their whiskies.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Note

    • Nose

Light peat wafting from the sweet grist handles the oak-induced date and walnut cake with aplomb.

    • Taste

The smoke is not slow coming forward and acts as a cushion to the multi layers of crisp sugars, muscovado- and Demerera-type which follow in its train. An excellent spice radiates from the developing hickory and Dominican-style cocoa.

    • Finish

      A bitter marmalade edge.

    • Balance

One of those delicately peaty guys which gangs up on you slowly. The smoke-infused layering of sugars is the star turn, though. 55.5%.

    J. Peloquin,

This was my first Indian malted whiskey. And one of the best malts I’ve tasted in a long time. It was very smooth and had a delicious Smokey taste that did not overwhelm the honey and fruit that is in abundance in this Very smooth delight.

Nose - Smokey and nutty, spicy on the nose. Palate - smoke, ginger, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugary. Slight citrus background. Finish - medium, smokey, spicy, citrusy.
