Laphroaig Select is aged in a combination of Oloroso sherry butts, American white oak (we suspect some of this is virgin oak), hogsheads seasoned with Pedro Ximenez, quarter casks and first fill bourbon casks. This results in a restrained and toned down version of this Islay classic.Tasting Notes (2)

Tasting Notes by Billy A
Punchy medicinal and mineral notes on the nose - muddy peat, rockpools and sea spray. Behind that there is sweetness, with chocolate milk and cornflake touches, as well as sherbert lemons and a gentle touch of wood smoke.
Soft and surprisingly light on the palate, with gingery spice, vanilla, sour apple and char backed up by nutmeg, cinnamon and a little dried fruit. The peat from the nose is subdued, with a soft and syrupy pine note coming through.
Spicy new oak, sour apple and a touch of damp wood. As that fades the traditional medicinal notes appear and linger for a short while.
An introductory Laphroaig, offering a big hit on the nose and a softer palate to lure in the unsuspecting.
A Fully Natural colour with no caramel added, it is sparkling gold with layers of colour – arising from different maturations and oils mixing together.
Peat first, then ripe red fruits from the PX and Olorosso casks. A hint of dryness next from the American oak with a long lingering florally finish - Marzipan and even limes at the end.
This full bodied whisky is initially sweet up front- matching the nose, then the classic dry, peaty, ashy flavours come bounding in followed by a lovely rich finish arising from the rich fruits of the European casks.

I’ve read quite a few scathing reviews of this. It’s perfectly fine. If you like Laphroaig 10 and Quarter cask, stick to those. This offers nothing new. And if you do try it, don’t compare - it won’t go well. It’s a decent peated scotch and 100% the best way to introduce someone (who isn’t heavily into peated whiskey) to Laphroaig.
Having tried both the 10 , many times, and the select back to back I have to say I prefer the select. That said the 10 is very very good it's the finish on the select I like. The finish on the select is like a lovely pipe tobacco were as the 10 is more like fire ash not that that is a bad thing. I'll buy both and enjoy both.
Certainly laphroaig light but since I expect this is what it is supposed to be I dont think that is an issue, nor do I see it necessary to score it against a laphroaig 10 year old which it is not. Peat smoke, TCP, lemons, oak and apples all wrapped up in a smooth slighty sweet dram. Picked up out of curiosity (and cheap price tag) and honestly no regrets. To the people moaning about the taste, put the glass down you might hurt yourself, this is Islay whisky and it's clearly to good for you to appreciate.
Honestly this is a really nice laphroaig. Not as sharp as the 10 but there are some interesting flavours going on. Just reading some of the comments here and laughing. Please if you dont understand Islay whisky do some research.
I've enjoyed the Laphroaig 10 before and enjoyed this after receiving a bottle for Christmas. I've just done a direct comparison with the 10 and I can safely say I prefer the Select. There may be huge variation in batches of this, or some people are just really hateful of anything that isn't what they're used to. It has a bit less bite than the 10, but not that much less. However, the Select has more complexity and subtlety with a gorgeous floral and peach-esque sweetness underlying the campfire smoke, brine, seaweed and baking spices. I find the Select has more balance and subtlety.
