Highland Park Dark Origins
Product Description

A sherried release from Highland Park, Dark Origins is a combination of 80% first fill sherry casks (of which 60% is European oak and 20% American) and 20% refill sherry. A dark expression which fits in with the distillery's origins – founder Magnus Eunson being a smuggler who worked in the darkness of night.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Rocky

    • Nose

Initial spiritiness burns off to reveal a swathe of chocolatey notes (both milk and dark) combined with cherries, toffee and hints of butterscotch.

    • Palate

The dark chocolate is more prominent with black-pepper spice and hints of fig, prune and orange zest. There's a whack of smoke running through the centre with sweetness at either side.

    • Finish

The chocolate slowly dissipates to leave the sweet smoke.

  • Producer's Notes

    • Colour

      Rich mahogany.

    • Nose

Sherried spice and ripe bananas combine with roasted hazelnuts and baked apple.

    • Palate

Well-balanced, dry peat at first mellowing out to maraschino cherries, warm dark chocolate entices the palate.

    • Finish

      Enduring sweet smoke.

    A favorite,

A luscious whiskey. Full of flavor. Rich yet smooth, not very grainy; strong caramels, subtle vanilla finish. My favorite of the Highland Park offerings.

I will definitely market in India

    Jeff,

Rich, smooth and flavourful. Just a hint of smoke. Perhaps more “highland” than “Island” in flavour, but an excellent whisky for me.

    Malmoth,

Although I like Highland Park, this particular whiskey was a disappointment. It lacks the body and richness of proper Highland Park whiskeys. This is produced specifically for the Northern American market, which is probably why it tastes so weak, almost like a bourbon. I honestly found it to be tasteless and lacking a character.

    Dave,

I was worried this maybe shouldn't have been my first Highland Park whiskey (my local shop discontinued HP, can you believe that?) but it was all I could get when I decided to try HP. Amazingly good and complex. A wonderful experience!
