    James Oliver is the best Rye for the price right now in the US. It bridges the gap between the medium quality Rye such a Bulliet 95 or Old Overholt and the more nuanced but expensive ones such as Whistle Pig, Redemption, Knob Creek. It also bridges the gap between a quality mixer Rye such as Sazerac and a more robust sipping Rye (like Whistle Pig). While my favorite Manhattan is with Sazerac I''m never going to pour Saz into a glass neat -- far too sweet. James Oliver is extremely versatile and complex making it perfect for both mixing and sipping. It has enough pepper and sweetness to indicate its origin and mix well but is extremely balanced otherwise with good depth. This is all the more remarkable given its aged for only 4 years in new oak alligator (#4) char barrels. It''s 100% rye and sits at a healthy 100 proof. I can''t recommend it enough.
