A well-balanced single pot still Irish whiskey, Redbreast 12 Year Old has been matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, creating a sweet-and-spicy character. The nose holds aromas of sweet fruit, toasted oak and warm spices, and the palate offers notes of buttery hot-cross-buns, dried fruits, baking spices and spicy oak.

Nose
Clean, fresh. Hint of linseed. Nuts. Cake.
-
Palate
By far the biggest of this selection. Assertive and complex, with lots of development and seemingly infinite dimension. Ginger cake, brazil nuts, treacle.
-
Finish
Liquorice-like sherry notes.
-
Comment
Delicious, soothing, contemplative. A great whiskey. Makes me want to get on a plane to Dublin immediately.

Nose
With Green Spot, the most impressive of Irish noses. There's a fruity, almost rye-like quality, and deft, honeyed sweetness, a touch of sherry, cream soda vanilla and some peppery notes. Breathtaking.
-
Palate
The flavours take off in all directions. Spiciness and a pot still backbone softened by sherry. Very firm with some toffee.
-
Finish
Oily, some liquorice and enormous sweet-sour complexity. Spicy and long.
-
Comment
Not quite perfect, but still an astonishing experience.

Nose
The very Irish nose tweak of resin, sherry and linseed.
-
Palate
Fat and oily. Layers of satin ginger, silk honey and hints of spicy liquorice.
-
Finish
Vanilla pods and marsala.
-
Comment
This is what real pure pot still whiskey is all about, a glorious contradiction of soft fruit and firm grain, oily seeds and sweet wood. World beating stuff.

Nose
Intense and full blooded. Pot still richness: citrus oils, hot sealing wax, leather, tobacco, tea, maraschino, overripe fruits, marzipan. Exemplary.
-
Palate
Ridiculously big. Oozes into the mouth and erupts. Spices galore to the finish. Oily and unctuous.
-
Finish
Long, rich, oily.
-
Comment
Whiskey covering the entire spectrum of aroma, taste, feel, flavour. World class.

12 yr old Redbreast. To die for.

I’m far from a whiskey connoisseur, but I’ve always enjoyed a whiskey every now and then. I’ve always been a fan of Powers and Jameson whiskies, but I would usually have a Powers hot toddy or a Jemmy, ginger and Lime on the rocks mixer. I’ve had both powers and Jameson neat but did not overly enjoy either. I got a gift of the Redbreast 12 (which I had cleverly asked for!) and could not believe the smells and tastes I was experiencing, absolutely wonderful stuff! I highly recommend this beautiful whiskey.

I have had many scotch I love them all but when I had a few pegs of this Redbreast Irish whiskey it was simply the best of all. I had this whisky probably 4 years ago at my friend's place in Dubai who had bought this from Ireland. I still can not forget that night. I tried to get it at Dubai and Mumbai duty free shops at the airport then but I guess they don't sell this rare collection. Hope I will be able to get one of this somewhere.

I'm a big fan of Irish malts (Bushmills 16 year old, my no.1) but thought I'd look into single pot still whiskey. Bought some miniatures (my normal try-out method) and really enjoyed Redbreast 12 year old. I'll not try to give florid nosing and taste descriptions, suffice to say, (for me) it's sweet toffee with a long finish. Also, dangerously easy to drink!
