To the eye: yellow to light gold. On the nose: floral, orange blossom, subtle oak, old leather. On the palate: thin viscosity with whimsical notes of peat, oak, orange marmalade, limestone, earth and subsoil. Finish is smooth and terse with gentle interchanging lingerings of peat and limestone. Preferred neat or in a traditional cocktail, such as an Old Fashioned (French Old Fashioned).
Smells and tastes like tequila. Maybe just a bad bottle?
While France is often associated with the Eiffel tower, cheeses, wine and brandy, it seems that whisky could now be added to the list. This is a handcraft blended whisky, barrel aged in different styles of wooden casks, bright amber in colour with a spiciness on the nose with subtle hints of apricots and orange's. Very smooth going down, little to no burn taken neat and has a nice complex set of flavours on the tongue such as fruits, pepper and sherry. Comparable in flavour to a milder Johnnie Walker Black label with some similarities to Bell's whisky. Would certainly buy another bottle. Fun little trivia note, this whisky is often featured in Canadian filmed TV series such as the Kevin Bacon series 'The Following' during a dream sequence featuring Bacon & James Purefoy and more recently in The Blacklist with James Spader (often the FBI boss or associate stars tiple)
Tried this on a whim after having been drinking craft beer exclusively for the past 5 or 6 months. I will say that this is very different from what scotch tastes like. I find it more flavorful and more interesting than the majority of those I've tried. Flavors are quite complex... some might find them confusing. Even minutes after taking a few sips, there is a peppery burn at the back of my throat and on my tongue. I *like* that. But for those who wouldn't - this is not for you.
Delicious cross between an lightly peated scotch and Japanese Whiskey. It goes down easy . I am loving the new direction Whiskey makers are going!! Jamie 1 should stick to his/her Spritzers
