Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

    • Nose

Beguiling aromas of apricots, orange blossom and marmalade, bolstered by subtle spiciness, too – cinnamon and clove. Elegant and seductive.

    • Palate

The generous fruit continues on to the palate, with oranges and apricots in abundance. There’s a little peppery spice, but the soft, succulent fruit takes hold. Nice balance, and nicely crafted.

    • Finish

The spiciness takes over from the fruit and lingers, along with a little barrel char.

    • Comment

Something of a baby compared with much older Hibiki bottlings, this retains the classic soft, elegant orange-blossom character and generous fruitiness, with a little spice to help things along.

  • Producer's Tasting Notes

    • Colour

      Amber.

    • Nose

Rose, lychee, hint of rosemary, mature woodiness, sandalwood.

    • Palate

Honey-like sweetness, candied orange peel, white chocolate.

    • Finish

Subtle, tender long finish, with hint of Mizunara (Japanese oak).

Smooth, very pleasant – its a wonderful flavour. I loved it, even though I'm a vodka drinker normally.

I tried it about a year ago when the price was around 53 bucks in a local store. It's the first Japanese whisky I ever tried, and I tried a few afterweards but this one is my favourite. Excellent blend. Love the bottle, gorgeous. It's smooth and easy to drink but the way it's flavour opens up in your mouth makes for a great whisky experience. My first recommendation whenever somebody ask about Japanese whisky. I'm curious to try their aged stuff but it's price sadly skyrocketed recently.

Very smooth, just the blend of honey, vanilla and fruit.

I have been drinking whisky for many decades and while not an expert I have a fair experience of some of the higher cost versions of both Irish and Scottish malts. I was pleased with the spiciness, a bit alarmed at the sweetness and disappointed by the thinness of Hibiki Harmony on the palate.
