Doorly's 12 Year Old Rum

An awesome rum. Consistent quality from one of the best run distilleries in Barbados. A fantastic 12 year old for the price point, at least in Barbados!

I did a blind taste test with a number of different dram tasters that I'd bought separately over the course of a few weeks, spanning across multiple years for each brand (where available) including Pusser's blue label, lamb's navy, ron zacapa (yes, I bought an XO as well as the 23!), diplomatica, rumbollion, sailor jerry's, gosling's and El Dorado 12, 15 and 21. After extensive tasting, Doorly's 12 time and time again, with less of a harshness as an XO, but with the complexity to hold itself against more expensive options. From the aroma alone, I could detect spices (cinammon, cloves, etc), complementary cardamom notes, herby thyme and oregano, and raisins The body is smooth with honey and floral notes, giving a coconut aftertaste. Over all I gave it a solid 8 out of 10. It was smooth, well balanced, gave the right citrus hit, but wasn't sugary sweet as a Zacapa. Its complexity makes it ideal as a serious sipper. The lack of sweetness makes it also ideal for mixing with coke, pineapple juice and dare I say; ginger beer! But I still think for mixing, it'd be better to get something cheaper. If this had a slightly sweeter hit, it would be a solid 9 or even 9.5 The Doorly's XO I felt was complex enough for me to enjoy, but had no WOW factor. I could smell pineapple, ginger, orange zest and brown sugar in this, with tasting notes beginning with a savoury nature, rounding off into banana, bitterness of 100% cocoa creeping in, tailing off to a mellow creamy walnutty aftertaste. I gave this one a 6/10

Yes have tried the Dooley’s 12 and it was lovely really enjoyed it

Doorlys rum 12 years is extremely good and would strongly recommend this to everyone.
