Long-aged Caol Ila can be excellent, and this is one of the best we've tried. With age, the smokiness of the whisky softens, revealing layers of fruit, gentle spice and elegance. A cracking dram, selected by and exclusively bottled for The Whisky Exchange. This was awarded 88 points by Serge Valentin of whiskyfun.com

Tasting Notes by Rocky
-
Nose
Subtle with pear, mango, vanilla, menthol and a hint of smoke.
-
Palate
Sweet at first with layers of honey and tropical fruit followed by pepper spice. There is a creamy texture and a subtly smoky backbone.
-
Finish
Long, dry and creamy with the smoke still gentle.

Comment
Old Islay whisky at its best.

This was a present for my son. He tasted it when he was in Scotland and loved it. He especially loved the hint of smoke.

Excellent whisky. full of great flavors all very well integrated, butter. tropical frits, tar... all backed up with wonderful greenish smoke (like a bonfire made of all kinds of herbs. sweet but not too much. I bought a sample and wish I could buy a bottle as a daily dram, but the price is a little high hence the 4/5...

Tried this at the TWE show 2 weeks back. Stopped me in my tracks... and this was after a good 8 pours of various other malts.
