The second release in Springbank's Green series, denoting the barley used in the production was organic. This has been aged for 13 years in sherry casks. Rich and sweet, with notes of apple, raisins, anise, and a touch of smoke.

Nose
Apples, pears and leather, with damp straw, farmyard hints, rich earth and a hint of smoke – old fire places and stacked logs. On top of the richer notes float pear drops and lemon boiled sweets.

Palate
Rich, sweet and smoky to start – damp leaves, warm leather and wood burning stoves. Charcoal notes develop, with stewed apple sweetness, raisin and sultana touches and toasted spice – nutmeg, cinnamon and anise.

Finish
Anise starts things off, carrying on from the palate, and is joined by fresh-tasting menthol and spicy black pepper. The spice fades to leave gummi fruit and some Demerara-sugar sweetness.

Comment
Classic Springbank, with a bit more weight than I expected – the sherry influence makes itself known, but not as much as you might think. The richness, fruit and spice from the cask is complemented by Springbank's rustic character. Another winner from the Campbelltown stalwarts.

My local liquor store has a backroom full of fantastic whisky, and tonight the whisky specialist took me through for a tasting. This was the second whisky I tried, and the first thing that hit me on the nose was the vibrant raspberry notes. No idea how you get raspberry in a whisky, but that's exactly what I got. The specialist, who was having a dram with me, agreed - definitely floral and berries. The taste is explosive, and it's a very full-bodied whisky. Not too much peat, just enough to make sure you know where it's from, but a fantastic melange of flavours which will blow your mind. Perfectly balanced. My only regret is that they don't actually sell it - they just have a bottle out the back for people they know truly love whisky.

Excellent. The Sherry cask influence gives it a lot of the same character as the 21 year old, but at a third of the price.
