Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Rocky

    • Nose

Quite a spirity nose upon first pour, which blows off after 30 seconds or so, to reveal toffee apples and caramel along with an unexpected note of tart lemons.

    • Palate

Tastes just like apple juice in flavour – the only clue that it’s not a soft drink is the slight warming sensation on the back palate, its so soft and smooth on the palate it really could be otherwise. As much as I could wax lyrical about the taste, there aren’t really any other flavours than can be picked out – it just does what it says on the bottle!.

    • Finish

A longer finish than may be expected, with the apple flavour lasting for a good 20 seconds or so. Smooth and fruity, this glides over the tongue and is quite moreish.

    • Comment

A delicious introduction to the world of liqueurs, this is just so easy drinking and deliciously fruity with no sign of any harsh finish that some liqueurs are known to possess.

    Jim Sheehan,

I served in the Forces out in Germany and this became my drink of choice. Amazing drink and just so moreish.

    Malc Cleverley,

One sip and I was transported back to my Army days based in Germany! Fair to say we never drank this as a liquer but more as a shot or ‘chaser’ alongside our favourite pilsner! A well rounded drink tasting of apples with a bite but still retaining a smoothness. The alcohol volume is deceptively low and yes you’d need quite a lot to get above 5 on the ‘Merry scale’. That said, drinking alongside other alcoholic beverages is not advised. I now have to buy more as both of my partners sons have become firm Apfelkorn drinkers. Drink and enjoy.

    Han,

I have enjoyed Apfelkorn since my days in the military in Germany (1980s). It used to be available in NAAFI shops and shops associated with the military, but seemingly less so nowadays. Anyway, finding it online was a blessing and drinking it with crushed ice remains my favourite way of doing so. Thus, a periodic order including Apfelkorn & Asbach Brandy (also a throwback to service in Germany) gives me a ready supply of both to keep in the liquor cabinet, with the incentive of free postage for ordering over £100 worth.

    Anonymous,

Bought this products a few years ago, and it had a far more "applely" taste to it. Bought another bottle recently, and there is barely an apple taste to it. Very disappointed, I will never buy this product again.
