Eilean Mor is a 2015 release from Finlaggan, a brand of whisky from an undisclosed Islay distillery. Bottled at a higher strength than the Old Reserve, this expertly balances smoke and fruit.

I'd combine words that you normally don't read together for Islay peaty malts to describe the several bottles of Eilean Mor I've had to date: Islay-influenced, soft, and mellow. For those nights when you don't want too much char and medicine but can't pull yourself away from your preference for Islay peaty malts, Eilean More is a winner, especially if you can get this at discounted prices. This one is definitely young but it still seems more mature than the Finlaggan Old Reserve that for me is too young and harsh with burning smoke. Contrarily, for the Eilean Mor, the peat and smoke are clearly forward but it's not overbearing. Much smoother, fuller body and a little oily. Because the peat and smoke are turned down a notch, you can detect mild hints of citrus, licorice, oak, vanilla and that seaside splash of brine. Quite good for a budget whisky.

Beautiful whisky with a delightful seaside aroma. Lovely and strong. For the price this is a fantastic whisky.

Excellent balance of flavours - Islay whisky with peat smoke . Not too sweet nor excessive burnt peat/smoke on the palate.
