Oban Little Bay is married in the smallest casks available at the distillery, 200-litre ex-bourbon barrels. This has resulted in a rich whisky with notes of stone fruit, spice and honey.Tasting Notes (2)
- Black Pepper
Tasting Notes by Stuart P
Clean, bright fruit, with aromas of peach, orange peel and a touch of red berries. Some pleasing oatmeal-biscuit notes, too, along with honey and cherry.
Fuller on the palate, with cinnamon and clove mingling with rich, honeyed fruit – apricot, apple and orange – and brioche. A sprinkling of freshly cracked black pepper perks up the palate, too, along with a hint of barrel char.
The citrus fruit and spices fade in equal proportion.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Rich antique gold.
Oily, waxy and nutty, balanced by ripe orchard fruits. Notes of almond fruit cake on denser Christmas pudding, with cereal and orange behind.
Medium to rich. Good viscosity.
The comforting chewiness of rich fruit-bread, hints of orange zest and clove, growing drier, still minty, with crisp green apple.
In a word, long. Quite syrupy at first, then drying, with elegant coating tannins rich in dark chocolate character.

Superb. I get brine and loads of oranges off this and well as the malt and a hint of pepper. Very singular and very good.
A real gem for the price - honey, fruit and sherry followed by a long dry finish!
Smooth as silk, excellent
On the nose, lots of honey, sherry, orange and oatmeal. Taste, arrival is overwhelmingly sweet, honey, peaches, raisins. The development instantly turns dry and spicy, black pepper, peat notes (enough to give it a 2/5 in the tasting notes i’d say), sherry, and lemongrass. Finish is long, dry, and slightly peaty. A few drops of water does this malt wonders. 85/100 imo.
Bought on sale for $40 and worth every penny. I disagree with the reported "0" smoke. This has a light peat smoke element which is far from overwhelming yet present indeed. Sweet, rich, peppery, and a steal at $40. Going to buy another bottle for safe keeping at this price.
