Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by the Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Full and rich with floral notes, tropical fruit, beeswax and hints of wood smoke.

    • Palate

Malt focused, with cinnamon and ginger spiciness, chocolate and tobacco.

    • Finish

Long and soft. Tobacco fades to leave spiced, stewed fruit.

  • Producer's Tasting Notes

    • Colour

      Deep gold.

    • Nose

Full-flavoured, rich. Initially, concentrated iris notes hint at the extreme intensity of the nose. It then develops aromas of malted barley, exotic fruit (banana), liquorice and camphor. Notes of burnt wood and ash progressively settle over the aromatic palette. Long after, white flowers and beeswax make an appearance.

    • Palate

Firm, lively. Malted barley is at the heart of the palate, coated in herbaceous, liquorice, spiced (ginger, cinnamon) and chocolate tones. Very elegant, the mid-palate also delivers plenty of energy and as it draws to a close, fresh tobacco leaves and coconut intertwine to create a natural symphony of aromas.

    • Finish

Long, soft. It evokes the scent of wilted roses. Fine tannins balance its tangy character (lemon, grapefruit). It lingers on notes of tobacco, spices (cardamom, ginger), toasted nuts and stewed fruits (apple, damson). The final nose reveals exotic notes (lychee).

Thin body as in description, but I like the taste....not particularly complex and there are a lot better whiskies out there for this price

    GMO,

Not worth the price tag at all! Very young spirits used, flavours are one dimensional. Overall this whisky is very forgettable. Unfortunately, Japanese whisky's popularity is having a negative effect on the quality as distilleries are struggling to keep up with demand.

    Chris,

Shared the bottle with friends. A great Sunday afternoon lunch finished with a very good Japanese single malt.
