A 2016 addition to Kavalan's core range, Sherry Oak uses the same casks that are normally reserved for the cask-strength Solist releases, but diluted to 46% using Kavalan spring water. Sweet and oily with notes of dried fruit, dark chocolate, pepper and raisins.

I found this to be very peppery. Starts and smells sweet but finishes very dry with sherry notes. I probably won’t stock it in my collection.

Blueberries, violet and vanilla on the nose. Soapy and oily mouthfeel with a fruit burst at the front of the palette. Sherry dryness on the finish that fully coats the mouth. Interesting but not one that I would try again.

Sadly sipping (as I write) the last of my bottle of Kavalan Sherry Oak Matured. It's been an absolute joy. Exceptional value at the price, so well balanced. It's just what i want from a sherry cask, raisin-y christmas pub, custard tart, toffee, a hint of bitter chocolate and a touch of white pepper. Hats off. I'll be re-stocking this imminently.
